Website Care Plan for Agencies FAQs

Agencies already receive preferred hourly pricing for development work compared to retail clients. We want to focus on maintaining a healthy site for your clients, and don’t want to eclipse your relationship with them. However, if you’re ready to hand off the client and their website completely, get in touch, and we can offer your client the option of our Essential or Premier Care plan.

Available plugin and theme updates are applied a minimum of twice per week. Security vulnerabilities in WordPress core, plugins, and themes are applied within 1 business day of patches becoming available. Major WordPress core version releases are applied within three business days, after testing for stability.

We preview all WordPress core, plugin, and theme updates on a staging copy of your website first to make sure there are no issues. However, if in the unlikely event a bad plugin update makes it to the website’s live instance and causes problems, we can quickly roll back to the previous, working version, and investigate the cause of the conflict on a non-live copy of the website.

We’ll work with you on a case-by-case basis to ensure a smooth process. For smaller improvements, it may be enough to work on the website in a separate branch while maintaining plugin and core updates, then carefully integrating the new work upon completion. For larger “phase 2” or complete overhaul type projects, we can suspend our Care plan for the duration, plus any time you have contracted to perform updates yourself.

And did you know we offer white-label WordPress development as well?

We don’t want to reveal all of our security practices, but a few things we do include:

  • Limit access to the website administration to users within the United States (if you need access from other countries, just ask, and we’ll make that available)
  • Change the URL to log into the site from the WordPress default to one that is unique to the website
  • Lock out IP addresses that repeatedly attempt to break into the website with multiple failed login attempts

We perform daily security checks to look for issues such as plugin or core vulnerabilities. Additionally, we offer the option to apply a web application firewall (WAF) to provide an additional layer of protection before malicious traffic hits the website (additional charge applies).

Because we prefer to take a more targeted approach, we don’t usually use the big turnkey security plugins.

The measures we take to secure the website mean hacks and breaches are extremely unlikely. However, in the unlikely event of a successful hack or breach, we will work with you to identify the vulnerability, restore from backup, and verify that the code on the website—including WordPress core and plugins—are clean and malware-free.

We have agency licenses for many of the more popular premium plugins used to build modern WordPress websites, such as Advanced Custom Fields PRO, Gravity Forms, and Smush Pro. For other premium plugins used to build the site, we will work with you to automate updates or we will bill for the plugin renewal at-cost.

Depending on your website hosting platform, we may need you to grant us access to your hosting dashboard. While our Care plan procedures are optimized for Pantheon, we can work with websites hosted on most of the major hosting companies that agencies tend to use.
